Matsudo Church Building Renovation Project

The Matsudo Church of Christ has been a part of this community since the 1960s. In 2019, membership had dwindled and the church was near dying, but God has done some wonderful things here since that time, and membership has grown steadily. As our building has aged and membership has increased, it has become clear that our current building is in serious need of renovations. On this page, you can find information about this project, as well as how you can help support our efforts to be a beacon of God’s kingdom in this community for years to come!

More About The Matsudo Church of Christ

Our church is located in the Kamihongo community of Matsudo City, a suburb of Tokyo. Our church building is less than 12 miles from Tokyo city center, and Matsudo station is on one of the main commuter train lines in and out of Tokyo, making it a busy and growing town. Matsudo itself is home to 500,000 people, but with surrounding cities like Ichikawa, Kashiwa, and Katsushika, a population of at least 2-3 million lives within about 20-30 minutes of our building. Meanwhile, we are the only Church of Christ within at least an hour, and one of only a handful of churches in the city generally. There is a lot of work to do here!

About Our Church's Vision

Our vision for the church here includes three key points:

To see the Matsudo Church of Christ be a beacon of God’s Kingdom in this community, testifying to the truth of the gospel and the Lordship of Christ through both our words and our works. This includes evangelism which calls people into God’s Kingdom, and acts of service which reveal glimpses of God’s promised future in the present.
To see the Matsudo Church of Christ be a healthy, robust church, capable of standing firm in the gospel, providing for the spiritual needs of its members, and making disciples of Jesus Christ in this area. This includes having homegrown leaders who are able to continue this process for generations to come.
To see the Matsudo Church of Christ reflect the city’s international demographic by bringing all the nations of this region into one body, unified not through earthly citizenship, but through our citizenship in God’s Kingdom, and through so doing, reflect the glory of God’s Kingdom to those around us.

Our Needs:

Our goal is to raise $100,000 USD for this project. This will allow us to make the following renovations, among others:

Roof & ceiling repairs
Flooring repairs
Window repairs
Foundation wall repair
Building expansion (~20-30 extra seating capacity)
Heating for baptistry
